FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Miraculous Healing in BrazilAn In-Depth Article by Josie RavenWing on Searching and Finding "The Miracle Man of Brazil" During these past three decades of intensive spiritual work, I have
passed through many initiations, teachings, and the occasional spiritual crisis.
During the few years prior to going to Brazil, I had begun to feel like I was
waiting to enter some new level or realm of experience, but I had no idea from
which direction or source this would occur. The waiting period was not easy, but
it allowed me to become more receptive to whatever Spirit might be bringing me
next.
It was during this waiting period—in the winter of ‘97-‘98--that I first
read an article about the Brazilian "miracle man" Joao de Deus.
I was quite intrigued by what I read, but at the time thought the article had
come my way for me to pass onto a friend who was seriously ill. Unfortunately, I
was not able to find the name of the town in which the healer worked, and
shortly thereafter my friend moved on to the spirit realm.
Some months later I found another article about Joao, and this one mentioned the
name of the town but not where it was located in Brazil. After many efforts, my
local librarian finally found a thick, dusty old book listing names of tiny
towns and villages not included on maps. And there I found the name of
the town I was seeking and an approximate description of where it was located.
Two weeks later I was on my way to Brazil. The next chapter of my journey had
begun!
Although I didn't know any Portuguese at the time, thankfully I was
fairly fluent in Spanish. This helped me through the confusion of Brazilian
airports and airport taxes, car rental, etc. to my arrival in the little town of
Abadiania in the interior of Brazil. The local people directed me to the
healer's center, where I met someone who spoke Spanish and who guided me through
the various intricacies of the Joao’s healing center, the Casa de dom Inacio.
And on that very first day—as on many subsequent ones—I witnessed what
most of us would call the miraculous. First, within minutes of arriving at the Casa and in the midst of a crowd of a good four hundred people, Joao himself appeared out of nowhere and came up to greet me as if he knew I would be there. Then, as the healing session started, I witnessed people being operated on by Joao in his trance state, people who had received no anesthetic and yet were feeling no pain and their incisions were not bleeding. Later that night, as I sat alone in the restaurant of my hotel, too energized to
sleep, Joao suddenly burst through the doors.
Then, as I stared in amazement, he demonstrated the power of
transmutation of energy to me by holding a candle flame on the palm of his hand
- with no sign of harm to the flesh afterwards - while he spoke to me for
several minutes about this power. (I
was to learn later that again, he was in a spiritual trance state while this was
going on). And day after day, for
my first two weeks at the Casa (and hundreds of times on subsequent visits
since) the miracles continued. Needless
to say, I felt these trips to Brazil were destined to be and have profoundly
touched my heart and spirit. Now
